Legal Basis - Salt Industry Promotion Act

  • Article 35. Salt produced by salt manufactures and/or imported should be subject to quality inspection

Objects for Salt Quality Inspection

  • Domestic Salt: Edible salt including sun-dried salt, chemical by-product salt, refined salt, processed salt, roasted salt, pure salt and inedible salt
  • Imported Salt: Edible salt including sun-dried salt, purified salt, refined salt, rock salt and inedible salt

Authorities for Quality Inspection

  • The NFQS: Delegated authority for quality inspection by the minister of Oceans and Fisheries in accordance with Article 15 of Enforcement Decree of Salt Industry Promotion Act
  • Korea Salt Manufacture Association: An authority for inspection stated in Article 35.1 of Salt Industry Promotion Act
  • Korean Health Supplement Institute, Mokpo National Univ., Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR): Authorities appointed by the minister of Oceans and Fisheries in accordance with Article 16 of Enforcement Decree of Salt Industry Promotion Act
  • ※Designation for Salt Quality Inspection Authority
  • Legal Basis: Article 35.2 of Salt Industry Promotion Act and Article 16 of Enforcement Decree of Salt Industry Promotion Act
  • Authorities for Quality Inspection: Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation (IACF) of Mokpo National Univ. and KTR (designated on Apr. 14th, 2011)

Penalty

  • A maximum 10 million won in fines will be imposed on anyone who sells or stores, displays, and imports salt for sale that are uninspected or fails to pass the inspection (Article 63 of Salt Industry Promotion Act)
